Over the past decade or so, surf movies have become ever increasingly higher budgeted films that not only take its viewers on some of the craziest water rides one can take, but also engaging in the lifestyle and culture that comes with the sport. The former is all thanks to newer technology and high-definition cameras that can capture images at speeds up to 2000fps, and the latter, well, that’s a ploy to add some good ole’ drama.
My favorite film to have come out recently (and by recently, I mean the last 20 years) is a film directed by Kai Neville called Modern Collective. To me, that’s the first surf movie that really dives into the emotions of each of the surfers that they experienced while traveling under tough situations to remote locations around the world in order to surf incredible waves. And now, another intriguing surf film, Attractive Distractions, is out and by the looks of the trailer, it’s got a lot of footage of wicked surfing.
The film follows 10 of the most progressive young surfers today on a journey from their hometowns to far off destinations in an effort to highlight a surfer’s world and the world of emotions that it entails. On a mission to capture surfing at its highest level, from paddling Jaws at 50 feet to airs that have yet to be seen, the movie features a devoted group of talented surfers including Albee Layer, Matt Meola, Clay Marzo, John John Florence, Kai Barger, Chippa Wilson and many more.
